Music and tales from Spanish Renaissance
The sixteenth century has in Diego de Ortiz and Joan of Timoneda two of its most emblematic Hispanic artists.
Diego de Ortiz, composer and viola da gamba player, was renowned for his “Tratado de Glossas”, first printed manual versed in performance upon viols, teaching how to improvise, including a number of pieces for that instrument, called "Recercadas", some of them based on melodies from other authors.
Likewise, Joan of Timoneda, born in Valencia, who was a man of marked mutifaceted cgaracter, developing from been a leather beater to bookbinder and from bookbinder to bookseller, and from book seller to publisher and writer. He had an important role in his day as a promotor of his own literary work and as well as works from other writers. Among its original production stands out, besides his dramatic works, his collections of short stories.
From these two figures linked to the Renaissance and taking as reference the title of Timoneda's book “Sobremesa y Alivio de Caminantes”, group of stories and tales of oral tradition for the joy and relax of pilgrims for rest and condiment after a good meal, we invite you to enjoy a concert where music and words, "Recercadas" and stories are stringing one after another like pearls on a necklace.
